Das von uns unterstützte Kloster Kopan liegt in Kathmandu, der Hauptstadt Nepals, die ca. 600.00 Einwohner hat. Dort leben auch die meisten Einzelpersonen und Familien, denen wir helfen.

Nepal hat ca. 24 Millionen Einwohner und ist etwa doppelt so groß wie Bayern. Die Bevölkerung besteht aus ca. 18 Millionen Nepalesen, der Rest verteilt sich auf  mehrere andere Bevölkerungsgruppen, darunter ca. 60.000 Tibeter mit nepalesischer Staatsangehörigkeit und etwa 20.000 Flüchtlingen aus Tibet.

Nepal gehört zu den ärmsten Ländern dieser Erde, was sich u.a. in der hohen Kindersterblichkeit (10%) und Säuglingssterblichkeit (7%) ausdrückt. Etwa 40% der Menschen leben unterhalb der Armutsgrenze, die Auslandsverschuldung betrug im Jahre 2000 insgesamt 2.823 Mill. $.

Wir suchen dringend Paten/Sponsoren, die mit monatlichen Beiträgen in Höhe von Euro 30 gezielt Kinder, Familien, Nonnen und Mönche unterstützen möchten.

The monastery of Kopan supported by us is situated in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, with appr. 600.00 inhabitants, where most of the individuals and families we support are living as well.

Nepal has appr. 24 million inhabitants and has twice the area of Bavaria. 18 million are Nepali, the others are made up of several other ethnic groups, among others appr. 60.000 Tibetan with Nepali citizenship and about 20.000 refugess from Tibet.

Nepal ranks among the poorest countries in the world, which is also shown by the high mortality for children (10%) and infants (7%). About 40% of the people live below the poverty limit, an in 2000, the foreign debts amounted to a total of 2.823 billion US $.

Nepal is a parlamentarian monarchy. For several years, many victims have been killed in armed conflicts between the Nepali government and the rebels of the „Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist“, the so-called „Maoists“.

We are urgently looking for sponsors volunteering to directly support children, families, nuns and monks by monthly donations of Euro 30.
